A creamy blend of avocado and chickpeas paired with crisp pita chips for a flavorful snack.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Green Avocado Hummus

01 - 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
02 - 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
03 - 3 tbsp tahini
04 - 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
05 - 1 small garlic clove, minced
06 - 2 tbsp olive oil
07 - 1/4 cup fresh cilantro or parsley leaves
08 - 1/2 tsp ground cumin
09 - 1/4 tsp sea salt
10 - 2-3 tbsp cold water

→ Pita Chips

11 - 4 pita breads, white or whole wheat
12 - 2 tbsp olive oil
13 - 1/2 tsp sea salt
14 - 1/2 tsp smoked paprika or zaatar

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. Cut each pita bread into 8 triangles and arrange in single layer on baking sheet.
02 - Brush pita triangles with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and smoked paprika or zaatar.
03 - Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
04 - Combine avocado, chickpeas, tahini, lime juice, garlic, olive oil, cilantro or parsley, cumin, and salt in food processor.
05 - Blend until completely smooth, adding cold water 1 tbsp at a time as needed to achieve creamy consistency.
06 - Taste and adjust salt if needed. Transfer to serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil and garnish with extra herbs. Serve with cooled pita chips.

# Top Tips:

01 -
  • The avocado makes it impossibly creamy without needing extra tahini or oil
  • People genuinely cannot stop eating it, and it disappears faster than regular hummus
02 -
  • The lime juice is crucial not just for flavor but to keep the avocado from turning brown
  • This hummus is best enjoyed the same day since the avocado will darken slightly overnight
03 -
  • If you're making this ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent browning
  • Room temperature ingredients blend together more smoothly than cold ones
